I want to comment on the officiating tonight...two 2nd period calls were pretty annoying to me...
The first one, Garry Galley and Dean Brown talked about quite a bit on the Sportsnet broadcast, but Fisher doesn't even touch him with an unintentional high stick...give me a break...
Second one, when Vermette got called for closing the hand on the puck on the PK and McCreary puts up 2 fingers meaning that he did it twice... Did what twice ? He had his hand wide open, palming the puck from the top...don't know, but to me, that is not "closing the hand on the puck"...
I'll also link out to The 6th Sens for this post. Graeme, I like your blog, but this goes to far, I take exception to insulting french canadians that live here...

Si un gros frappe un petit, doit-il être suspendu parce que le petit n'est pas gros et s'est fait mal ?
OK, I should blog...I should blog !
The title means, "If a big guy hits a small guy, should the small guy be suspended because
the small guy is not a big guy and gets hurt ? "
It was inspired to me when I read that Colin Campbell said this today:
It's a high speed, high impact sport, boom !!! Only malicious hits warrant a suspension.
Demain, premier match du CH contre les Sens...j'ai hâte !
I won't get to watch it all...I'm playing hockey at 10:00...no chance I'll see the end of the 3rd...

If the play is "NHL quick" and a big hit is thrown, there might be an injury. To the guy getting hit, probably, but maybe the hitter will get the worst of it.

October 3rd 2007 ?!?!?
Come on, get bloggin' !!! Sherry at Scarlett Ice linked to me way back last year, and I haven't made a single post since. Booooooo me.
I'm pumped for the coming season. Jason Smith is a beast. The best thing : he's the guy, with the C on his chest, that shook every Habs' hand to end their season last spring. Very cool.
Ruutu should be a blast to watch, but the jury's still out on him. But more on the coming season later...
I'm heading to Gatineau tomorrow for our Fantasy Hockey Summer GM Meeting, where we decide the rule changes we want to implement in our hockey pool. I'm the commish of our league, we're into our 7th season now. The points system is pretty much tweaked the way we want it, but everybody has a little thing they want to change.
Me, since we only carry over 4 players from a 15-man roster, I'm looking to try and get the guys to up the number of keepers. Quite a few of us want that, but there are others that disagree strongly, so we'll see...

Live Sens Blogging
I'll update this post with all my thoughts throughout the game...this is where you get the raw SilverSeven !
7:03 I refuse to watch the Habs-Canes pregame show and puck drop right now. Watching the Angels - Red Sox game instead. The season starts at 7h30....
7:15 I wonder if I should switch to TSN for the pre-game show...nah...Francona is now out to talk to Runge on the great Cabrera sweep tag to end the 2nd inning in Boston..
7:23 My girlfriend just called...she tells me the Habs are down 1-0 already...lol
7:29 Beckett strikes out Chone Figgins to end the top of the 3rd...time to switch to TSN...just in time to catch Duthie congratulating Murray on signing Heatley...sooo true...yes, yes, yes, congrats to new GM, Fisher and Heatley long-term in 3 weeks...woohoo !!!
7:38 OK, I hate pre-game shows. Especially this one tonight...when does this start...aaarrrghhhh ! Back to baseball, I'll zap back later.
7:40 Ramirez scores !!! 4-0 Sox. I will love to watch this series, my 2 fav teams in the AL going head-to-head...just cheering for some great baseball...
7:42 Just reading Alexander Nikulin's last blog entry right now while I wait.
7:44 Where's Jef08 ?
7:45 OK, Jef just shows up as the men line up for the opening faceoff.
7:54 First break...Heatley already has a big shift.
7:56 Vermette scores !!! Oh. que. oui. Gros but.
8:10 WTF we go to the break just as Redden is starting to go at it with Newbury.
8:27 First lesson of live blogging...have a fridge full of beer and food before the game. I had to go out to the store during the intermission (Moosehead and a 3-meat Delissio - just because there was this Stanley Cup promo on the pizza box). 1st intermission thoughts...Phillips is on a 2-game goal scoring streak...
8:51 1:05 2-man PP coming up...

SilverSeven and Full Contact Poker
I started reading Daniel Negreanu's blog in 2005 and it pretty much was my first exposure to the blogosphere, which was about the same time I started reading James Mirtle's blog daily.
As an avid No Limit Hold'Em poker player, I really enjoyed the insight DN gave his fans on the high stakes poker world. He is a very influental and very popular player, I think this poker community project has had a big part in him being very respected.
OK, so, over there the forums are just crazy cool. There's some funny drama in the General Poker forum, but if you start reading the Strategy forums, there is a goldmine of information on how to better yourself into being a +ev poker player. I will be coming back to the subject of +ev a lot I think, I really like the concept. For now I'll limit my thoughts to telling the poker lingo noobs that it stands for "positive expected value"
Well, I've been posting a lot there in the hockey forum since last year. Daniel is in a crazy hockey pool they call the AHL and this guy Serge is the GM of the Mustangs that compete with Negreanu's Cheap Thieves. Well Serge was active posting today in his full delusional Leaf fan form and he took $100 worth of bets that the Leafs will finish above the Sens in the standings this year. Very -ev...

Man that gym was warm
Up on the second floor, just crazy heat and humidity.
I must have sweat about 5 pounds...with all of my gear it had to be like 120F close to my skin...
I have to find a link of this article where Giguere went to the Gatorade special research facility because he de-hydrated too much, and it was a crazy amount, like 20 lbs a game or something...

Fall shall eventually be upon us
Today though is a very soggy Friday afternoon in Montréal. I was outside just earlier to play some baseball with the roommate, and it was tough. Just soooo hot, plus the lactic acid buildup from last night's first hockey game !!!
We played a 90 minute practice / scrimmage with all the guys that will make up the 3 teams in the league. The weird thing is noone know who they'll play with yet because the captains were kind of using this first night to scout everybody out before they draft the teams. Well, we were all 3 goalies, so we each alternated taking a breather, which was good. It feels so good to get back onto the ice !!!
But, it is September, and fall shall eventually be upon us, so I've got to just keep posting if I want to really get this blogging thing going. I'll have plenty of thoughts to post when hockey season comes around, but now summer is just so fun that time is spent elsewhere.
Summer in Montréal...the most amazing place anywhere. Anyone who has been here during the summer understands. Us québécois are a special breed, the whole urban latin vibe, plus we have to endure winter for 6 long months so it makes for a no-holds-barred, let's enjoy this while it lasts ambiance !
I'm off to play ball hockey tonight...random call from a guy that found my # from a list of free agent goalies I'm on. 8 till 10...I'm almost late...ciao
